Movie Summary
Seventeen-year-old Hallam Foe lives on his wealthy father’s estate in the Scottish Borders. Since his mother’s death by drowning, he has become increasingly withdrawn, spending much of his time hiding in a treehouse and secretly watching the people around him.
Hallam refuses to believe that his mother died by suicide. Instead, he suspects that his beautiful stepmother, Verity, may have been responsible for her death. His growing resentment toward her creates an increasingly uncomfortable atmosphere at home.
After a confrontation with Verity, Hallam leaves the family estate and travels to Edinburgh, hoping to escape his father and the memories that haunt him.
In the city, he finds work at a hotel and begins living in its clock tower. From the rooftops, he continues his habit of observing strangers. One day, he notices Kate, a hotel employee who bears an extraordinary resemblance to his late mother.
Fascinated by her, Hallam becomes increasingly involved in her private life, secretly watching her and gradually developing an emotional attachment.
But as his obsession grows, Hallam begins discovering secrets that challenge his understanding of love, family, and the truth about his mother’s past.
